2015 Overview
Our annual visit to Cornwall took place on the 17th – 20th May and the weather is probably best described as “English”. We once again stayed at Bowood, but our first venue on the Sunday was Launceston Golf Club – which was in typically fine condition.
Unusually for our tour, the pre-season transfer window had seen a flurry of activity with the Craston team securing the services of Richard Edmonds for a record fee – rumoured to be in the region of 2 hot cross buns. Meanwhile, Peter Harris had joined the Christie / Wain / Scott team to fill the void left by Richard’s departure – particularly with regards to sartorial elegance.
By the end of Sunday, it was clear that the disruption to the Christie / Sykes / Needle team had seriously damaged their chances of retaining the trophy for a 3rd consecutive year. Of the 5 matches played, the Craston team won 4 of them and secured a lead that would ultimately be unassailable.
Monday’s results were closer but the Christie / Reay / Harris team fell further behind losing the morning session 2 – 3 and tying the afternoon session.
The Championship
Tuesday saw an interruption to the team competition in order that the Championship could be decided. The venue was Lanhydrock once again, and the result ended up being very close. Four players scored 34 points, but our champion with 35 points was Rob Austen.
Final Scores
Wednesday saw the singles competition being held at Bowood with the Christie / !! / ?? team requiring victory in seven of the nine matches to retain the trophy. They didn’t.
The Craston team had a comfortable victory this year with a final score of 13 – 7.
