Our 2021 Champion Golfer

A winning debutante!

This year’s champion golfer is Trina Brown who scored an excellent 38 points around Dainton Park in less than ideal conditions.

Trina is pictured below receiving the “Harris Hat of Glory” and Champion’s Jacket from previous winner Dave.

2021 Tour Report

Dartmouth Hotel, Golf & Spa, 17th – 20th October

With 2.5 years since our visit to St Pierre we finally got together again at a new venue near Dartmouth in Devon.

Clearly time is catching up with a number of us with some lacking a lung , others having had a heart scare, suffering back problems or breaking bones before the trip!!

I think that despite the adverse weather it was so good to meet up again.

Sunday, 17th October

The trip started bright and sunny with everyone enjoying the excellent Championship Course at Dartmouth. The opening team games finished as follows:

Rob Austen & Bruce Mercer won vs DaveScott & Martin Sykes 5/3

Pete Cosford & Paul Needle won vs Richard Edmonds & David Wain 4/3

Derek Craston & Steve Mulford won vs Nigel Wain & Sue Scott

and lastly some success for the challengers with –

Phil Reay & Laura Craston losing to Peter Harris & Trina Brown

Spot prizes went to –

Sue Scott ntp x 2 on the 2nd

Richard Edmonds ntp 5th

Pete Cosford ntp on the challenging 18th and also Longest Drive on the 11th.

Monday, 18th October

Monday’s team challenge event was truncated by extremely heavy rain, but before the retirement to the clubhouse spot prizes were won as follows:

Phil Reay ntp x 2 at the 2nd, Pete Cosford ntp at both 3rd & 5th and Dave Scott longest drive at the 8th.

With 2s monies carried forward from 2019 and none achieved on Monday, the kitty for the Open at Dainton Park was well worth winning.

Tuesday, 19th October

Dainton Park was the venue for an eventful Open championship.

With the forecasted rains thankfully holding off, we faced a challenging, slippery course, with accompanying mizzle and sanded greens.

The winner was new girl (can we say that?) Trina Brown with 38 points followed by an interrupted round for both David Wain with 36 points and Sue Scott with 34 points.

Spot prizes were as follows:

NTP at the 8th Rob Austen

NTP x 2 at 13th Richard Edmonds

NTP at 15th (at last) Nigel Wain

and Longest Drive Richard Edmonds at the 16th

The 2’s club monies were divided between Nigel & Richard who both birdied the 17th hole.

With no qualifying golf on Wednesday the funds will be carried forward to day one in 2022

Having reported all that I should like to thank all those who stepped forward to help our injured friend Pete – getting him to hospital , back to base and home to Oxfordshire. It really makes me appreciate what good friends we have.

Plans are under way for spring so stand by for more news.

2021 Open Championship – Update

Date/Venue Confirmed

This championship this year will be held on the Tuesday of our golfing break at Dainton Park. Once again, the competitors will be battling for the honour of wearing the Harris Senior’s jacket of winners, lifting (and arranging to get engraved) the Championship Trophy and, of course, slipping their head inside this year’s Harris Hat of Glory.

Good luck all!

Dorset Mini Tour Report

The Dorset Golf & Country Club, May 17th-20th

Dorset Tour Group

The nine participants including debutant Catriona attended the event in their pods and masks.

Monday saw a team event with the combination of Paul East,Steve Mulford & Nigel Wain winning with a score of 66 points. David Wain secured the sole spot prize making the 14th green in two shots.

With the last few holes completed in pouring rain the evening highlight was a spectacular double 🌈rainbow 🌈.

Tuesday dawned to better weather and saw the Mini Championship won by David with a score of 33 points. Trina achieved a treble -nearest the pin on 7th , a birdie two later – I think the 15th (only one of the trip) and runner up – 27 points.

Third on count back from Nigel was Paul. Paul also swerved the pm session to trawl the course/water/gorse to the tune of sixty lost balls (not all his I hasten to add). Team David/Paul and Peter took the team prize with 66 points.

Wednesday saw the best weather and jumbled playing groups with some finding nine holes 🕳 sufficient. Team Peter/Jane/Nigel were the last standing with Jane netting the ntp x 2 on the 10th hole and Martin Sykes ntp on 7th.

Overall a successful trip and we now move on to The Dartmouth in October where we hope for a COVID free host venue and reasonable weather.

Also stand by for an away day as soon as permitted

2021 Tour Update

A Message from Peter…

With some government potential relaxation of golfing / hospitality rules from 17th May – the day after planned start of our visit to the Dorset I have taken the following steps:

Moved the main event to September, potentially starting Sunday 6th at a venue to be confirmed – Golf Travel are exploring options here.

The May event will now take place on a slimmed down basis for those interested – starting Monday 17th May

It will be subject to “pods” of max six for accommodation/eating purposes.

It will comprise 2 nights and three rounds of golf at a cost of £252.

Please let me know if you would like to join me/the Wains for this or whether you prefer to wait until things return to some sort of normality.

I look forward to hearing from you with your thoughts.

New Year Message

2021 Tour Update

With the new year upon us Peter wished to set out the current position with our trip planned to start on 16th May:

At present we have 21 participants who have paid deposits / paid in full / or somewhere in between for a booking in Lodge accommodation and breakfast & dinner plus 4 rounds of golf on site plus an away day at Bridport on the Tuesday.

Having spoken to the venue & Your Golf Travel I am told that, whilst the resort is closed due to Covid at the moment, they are hopeful that by May things will have returned to some sort of normality.

I do hope that things will work out and we can meet up again.

If you have reservations or wish to be added to the event please let me know.

Stay safe

Peter

Bridport 6th
Let’s hope we can tee it up here in May.

2020 Tour Announcement

A Message from Peter

To my very good friends,
With the C virus likely to peak at/during/near to our proposed visit, and the certainty that some of our group will not be present for very good reasons, I have bitten the bullet and arranged with Your Golf Travel (our agents) to postpone the trip for 12 months.
This will mean that deposits/payments already made will not be lost. Of less importance, it means we also secure more advantageous tee times for next year.

New date for 2021 is Sunday, 16th May. Full running order to follow.
In the meantime we have those who have paid a deposit – who will not be affected – and others who have paid in full. If this is you, please let me know if you would like a refund/part refund or whether you are happy to leave things as they are for the interim.
In the short term I will play things by ear in respect of the planned away-day on 18th April  and hope that something can happen – probably on a golf-only basis.
Also, and depending on how things pan out, I will look for a get together over one weekend in August/September.
Stand by for more news.
All the best, and please take care.

Peter
