Spring Away Day Report – 2023

Feldon Valley Golf Club, Sunday 30th April

Ten players gathered for our spring away day which was very well organised by Steve Mulford. Old fashioned English spring weather greeted the players but, thankfully, most of the round was completed in dry conditions.

Richard Edmonds took the individual prize with an excellent 36 points, followed by Steve Christie with 33 and Dave Scott with 31. Individual prizes went to Sue Scott for nearest-the-pin on the 6th hole and Dave Scott for longest drive on the 17th. Unfortunately, nobody managed to hit the green in two on the short par 4th.

Onwards to St Mellion in June, and fingers crossed for sunny weather!

Summer Away Day Report

West Berks Golf Club, Sunday 10th July, 2022

A select band enjoyed a round at a West Berks course in excellent condition in blazing sunshine.

First in the individual competition came Peter Harris with 37 stableford points followed by leading lady Trina Brown on 33 and Richard Edmonds 32 / combined with a best gross of 89.

Team wise team Trina, Reg and Dave Scott came out on top with 75 points

Spot prizes went to Sue Scott with ntp on the 7th, Dave ntp on 11th and longest drives on the 18th to Sue and Dave

Onwards now to the main event.

Birthday Boys Away Day Report

The Springs Golf Club, Sunday 13th March

The postponed birthday boys event took place with eight players enjoying a dry, if damp underfoot, day.

John Gent came home in the lead despite stumbling with the line nearing, scoring 36 points followed by Dave Scott with 31 and Paul Needle 3rd on count-back with 30.

Spot prizes went to Peter Harris NTP on the 2nd – bouncing off the marker already on the green to edge closer than Dave – who took consolation by holing his putt for the sole 2 of the event.

No one managed to get their ball onto the 16th green for a NTP, but Steve Mulford went closer in 2 at the 17th than Richard Edmonds to secure that prize.

In addition, he was the only player with the required accuracy to get his ball to stay on the fairway at the 9th for the longest drive .

Team wise John, Dave, Richard and Martin Sykes scored 81 points to take that prize.

We will look for a summer away day in July, but in the meantime the mini tour to The Dorset is just around the corner.

Away Day Report

West Berks Golf Club, Sunday 5th September, 2021

The second and final awayday of 2021 was held in sunny weather at the West Berkshire course on sunday 5th September.

The scores were close and solid rather than spectacular with Sue Scott coming out on top with a score of 33 points closely followed by Richard Edmonds on 32. Third prize went to Reg Brown on countback due to a back nine of 19.

Reg also featured strongly on the spot prize scoreboard taking Nearest the Pin on 11th and holing the putt to share the two club monies with Paul Needle who chipped in on the seventh.

Reg missed the green at the 12th (NTP x 2 ) where Richard took the honours but his drive at the last must have put pressure on the second group who could not surpass it on the fairway.

Onward now to Octobers main event with the February Birthday boys get together to be confirmed.

Away Day Report – July 25th, 2021

West Berkshire Golf Club

With just under two years since the last away day at Whittlebury, eight hardy players joined by the recovering Steve Mulford met at The West Berkshire course. They were not put off by the predicted rain, thunder and lightening which failed to materialise.

The team event was won by Sue Scott, Reg Brown, Steve Christie and Paul Needle with 84 points beating Dave Scott, Trina Brown, Peter Harris and Martin Sykes with 80.

Dave took the nearest the pin on 11th holing the putt for the sole two of the event although he did have another chance on the 14th.

Martin ousted Paul on the 3rd for ntp x 2 and Peter secured the longest drive on the 18th by dint of hitting the fairway. Neither lady hit the fairway from their tee set way back in the trees.

Individually those scoring over 30 points were –

Paul -16 out, 15 back, total 31

Dave -18 / 14 = 32

Reg – 14 / 20 = 34

Peter – 16 / 23 = 39

England Golf have been notified of Peter’s impressive winning score.

We will hope not to have to leave it another two years before getting together again

Probably late august / september stand by for news.

Autumn Away Day Report & Birthday Bash 2020!

Whittlebury Park – Sunday, 29th September, 2019

The September away day took place under stressful circumstances not helped by a gloomy weather forecast that led to some absentees. The forecast proved to be disappointingly accurate and the predicted rainstorm and high winds arrived as play took place. Winner on the day was Mike Stannard with 29 points who also took nearest the pin on the 5th hole. Martin Sykes struck the longest drive of the day.
