Autumn Away Day News

The date for the Autumn awayday has been set for Sunday 1st October at Rye Hill with meet @ 11 for a 12:00pm Tee. Price will be £25 for golf & prizes.

2018 Trip Update

In the meantime, the 2018 trip is currently a work in progress.
Factors under consideration include:
1) a possible later date to avoid inclement weather (little chance);
2) a different venue in the UK as the concensus is that we have exhausted Cornwall; and
3) keeping the cost to a reasonable level.
More news will follow in due course.

Spring Away Day Report – 23rd April, 2017

The second away day of the year was held in warm and dry conditions on a course that is an old favourite for our group.

Runner up Dave Scott carded 33 points with Richard Edmonds in third with 32 – edging out Frank Tanner on countback.
Only two of the spot prizes were earned –  by Frank with NTP on 7th and Richard with longest drive at the last. Peter took the 2’s club money, also at the 7th hole.

Autumn Away Day – September 6th, 2015

Cotswolds Golf Club, Chipping Norton

A warm, sunny day and a golf course in lovely condition greeted the 12 players who joined us for the last Away Day of 2015.

We headed out in teams of 3 with the usual individual Stableford format and “best two scores per hole” as the team competition format. There were audible sighs of relief from some members that the dreaded “yellow ball” format was absent (yes, that means you, Steve & Martin).

Obviously buoyed by the selected format, Steve Mulford and Martin Sykes – alongside Frank Tanner – secured the team victory with a very respectable 78 points.

Frank was also our champion golfer on the day, with a solid 35 points. Runners up were Dave Scott with 33 points with both Steve M and Sue Scott scoring 32 points.

The point prizes were awarded as follows:

Nearest the Pin on the 3rd hole – Mike Stannard

Nearest the Pin in 2 on the 7th hole – Dave Scott

Longest Drive on the 13th hole – Mike Stannard

Nearest the Pin on the 15th hole – Steve Mulford.

Details of the next Away Day will be posted on this site once details are confirmed – likely to be sometime in February, 2016.

Summer Away Day – July 19th, 2015

South Cerney Golf Club

Once again Dave Mitchell hosted our summer away-day at South Cerney. Eleven of us enjoyed some warm sunshine and an aerial display from the International Air Tatoo at nearby Fairford.

The team game was the dreaded “Yellow Ball” where competitors have the added stress of letting their team mates down rather than just themselves.

The team prize was won by Sue, Geoff, Reg and our host – Dave M with a score of 105 points. Worthy winners as they were the only team to return the Yellow ball safely.

Individual winner on the day was Sue with 37 points. Christine was runner up with the same score but a paltry 19 points on the back nine!

Sue also secured a birdie 2 on the long Par 3 6th hole. This feat was made more remarkable by the flypast of Spitfires and Hurricanes that accompanied it.

We all look forward to the next away day at Chipping Norton. See here for more details.
